State Officers

Meet the Officers

Payton Steensma

Hey everyone! My name is Payton Steensma, and I am thrilled to be your Educators Rising State President for 2017-2018. I am currently a senior at Millard West High School. I am the State Representative for the Millard Education Academy chapter. I have been an Educators Rising member for a year, and I am excited to help it grow. My goals for this year are to increase membership and strengthen our organization. Even though life is busy, in my free time I enjoy eating Runza, jamming in the car, and shopping with my friends. But, teaching is my passion. I aspire to be an elementary school teacher. Education is everywhere, and we are all educators. So please join me for an out-of-this-world year!

Carmel Notario

Mabuhay everyone, I'm Carmel Notario. I came to the United States from the Phillipines at the age of nine, not knowing any English. Through the help of my ESL teachers I learned English. That is what inspires me to become a teacher. I am currently a Senior at Bryan High School in Omaha.  I'm excited to be the Educators Rising State Secretary. This year our State Officer goals are to spread, promote, and involve. My personal goal is to simply learn, grow, and represent our members. When I’m not working with Educators Rising I am involved in JROTC, NHS, DECA, Student Council, Junior Class Officer and Aim-Trio.

Megan Peklo

Hello all! My name is Megan Peklo and I'm a senior at Omaha Burke High School. I could not be more thrilled to spend my senior year as Nebraska Educators Rising's Vice President of Membership. This will be my fourth year as an active member of Educators Rising. My main goal as Vice President of Membership is to expand Educators Rising to the private schools of Omaha, Lincoln, Kearney, and other communities in Nebraska. The more diverse we are as an organization, the more opportunities come our way. In addition to Educators Rising, at Burke I'm also involved in Varsity Tennis, NHS, SNHS, and Student Council.

Elizabeth Soriano

Hello! I'm Elizabeth Soriano and I'm excited to be your 2017-18 Vice-President of Communication. I am currently a senior at Omaha Central High School and I'm involved in Latino Leaders, National Honor Society, the ACappella choir, play guitar, and of course, Educators Rising. My goal for this year is to be more inclusive in the Spanish-speaking community by providing information and updates in both the English and Spanish language. Another thing you should know about me is that if I'm not busy with school or work, I'm online, whether it be on Instagram or Twitter. I'm super friendly, so don't ever be afraid to reach out and say hi! This year Educators Rising Nebraska is going to be fantastic!
